For most people, they are looking for the most efficient and effective way to improve or maintain their health. Most people choose one of two options. They select a health club membership or home exercise equipment. The draw to both is the convenience of not having to take time setting up a bunch of equipment and being able to move through their workouts as quickly as possible. That seems like an ideal solution to their desire and need for efficiency and effectiveness.
April fools! Our bodies are designed to move in so many differing ways that you would have to have too many machines to fit into a gym let alone your home. Even then, that wouldn’t solve the problem. Our bodies are designed to work together as a whole organism to produce the myriad of movements that are possible. Machines by their very nature usually limit the movement to a single or maybe a couple of variations of movement. They also don’t require our bodies to move as a whole organism like we are designed.
So, what’s the big deal, right? I’m glad you asked. It is a big deal. When we don’t move the way, our body is designed to move, then we start having to make compensations and adaptations to keep functioning in everyday life. That leads to stresses on individual tissues and joints that increase our risk of injuring ourselves and producing wear and tear on our joints that will eventually lead to pain and in more and more cases joint replacement. Plus, your ability to do the everyday tasks and recreational activities is reduced more and more over time.
The answer: break free from the machines and start training the way your body was designed to move. If you’re curious about how to go about doing that, I offer a complementary consultation to sit down and create a roadmap to follow that provides you with the guidance to train the way your body moves. If you’re currently experiencing pain, or your ability to move the way you want to has been compromised then this is a great place to start. We’ll come up with a plan that will get you out of pain and living the active life that you want to live.
